Sensex marginally falls 12.16 points

Mumbai, Aug 19 (UNI) The BSE Sensex marginally fell 12.16 points on Monday to settle at 80,424.68 as profit booking by local operators.

However, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) rose 31.50 points at 24,572.65.

The equity market remained calm throughout the session, and no high volatility was seen, as the Sensex advanced 244 points to open at 80,680.25, the day’s high figure.

Later, it slipped nearly 104 points at 80,332.65, a day low, before closing at 80,424.68, easing 12.16 points from its previous close.

The stocks that kept the market low were Bankex by 0.36 pc and Auto by 0.15 pc.

While, the stocks including Metal, Oil, and Gas, and Utilities tried to support the market, as Metal was up over 2 percent, Oil and Gas and Utilities by over one percent each.

The Mid-cap rose by 0.53 pc and Small-cap by 1.33 pc.

In 30 scrips, 16 advanced while 14 declined.

The losers were M& M by 2.55 pc to Rs 2768.15, IndusInd Bank by 1.13 pc to Rs 1350, Bharti Airtel by 1.02 pc to Rs 1469.35 and Tata Motors by 0.89 pc to Rs 1089.

The gainers were Tata Steel by 2.94 pc to Rs 153.95, TCS by 1.62 pc to Rs 4488.15, NTPC by 1.46 pc to Rs 403.95, and JSW Steel by 1.16 pc to Rs 918.50.
