Sensex rises 234.12. pts

Mumbai, Jan 7 (UNI) Snapping the losing streak of the last two sessions, the BSE Sensex on Tuesday, smartly recovered 234.12 pts to close high at 78,199.11 on the strength of Energy, Oil and Gas, and Industrial.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) rose 91.85 pts at 23,707.90.

Slumping 1258 pts on Monday, the Sensex improved 55 pts at 78,019.80. It surged 488 pts at 78,452.74, a day high, before closing at 78,199.11, gaining 234.12 pts from its previous close.

The Mid-cap rose by 0.77 pc and the Small-cap by 1.74 pc.

In 30 scrips, 18 advanced while 12 remained declined.

The gainers were Tata Motors by 2.40 pc to Rs 792.75, Reliance Industries by 1.73 pc to Rs 1240.45, ICICI Bank by 1.24 pc to Rs 1280, Asian paints by 1.06 pc to Rs 2208.50 and Nestle India Ltd by 1.06 pc to Rs 2208.05.

The losers were Zomato by 4.82 pc to Rs 251.90, HCL Technology by 1.73 pc to Rs 1918.60, TCS by 1.53 pc to Rs 4032, and Tech Mahindra by 0.93 pc to Rs 1670.
