Mumbai, Dec 23 (UNI) Snapping a losing streak of the last five sessions, the BSE Sensex on Monday jumped 498.58 pts to close at 78,540.17 on positive global cues.
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) gained 165.95 pts at 23,753.45.
The Sensex opened in green and it remained positive throughout the session, as it opened on a strong note at 78,488.74, surging 447 pts. It further rallied 877 pts at 78,918.12, a day high, before closing at 78,540.17, up 498.58 pts from its previous close.
The Nifty registered days high and low at 23,869.55 pts and 23,647.20 pts respectively.
The stocks that lifted the market were Realty by 1.39 pc, Banks by 1 pc, FMCG by 0.75 pc, and Financial services by 0.70 pc.
The Mid-cap rose by 0.10 while the Small-cap by 0.60 pc.
In 30 scrips, 20 advanced while 10 declined.
The gainers were ITC by 2.10 pc to Rs 474.35, Tech Mahindra by 1.81 pc to Rs 1715.75, HDFC Bank by 1.58 pc to Rs 1800, Reliance Industries by 1.41 pc to Rs 1223 and IndusInd Bank by 1.33 pc to Rs 942.35.
The losers were Zomato by 2.68 pc to Rs 274.30, Maruti Suzuki by 0.89 pc to Rs 10808, HCL Technology by 0.52 pc to Rs 1901.35 and Bajaj Finserv by 0.45 pc to Rs 1562.
The European market rose along with the Asian Market.
In the Asian market, Hang Seng was up by 0.82 pc, Taiwan Weighted by 2.57 pc and Kospi by 1.55 pc.
