Sensex zooms 1078.87 pts

Mumbai, Mar 24 (UNI) Maintaining a winning streak intact for the sixth consecutive session on Monday, the BSE Sensex rallied 1078.87 pts at 77,984.38 following gains in Power, Bankex and Financial services stocks amid strong foreign capital inflows.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) rose 307.95 pts at 23,658.35.

The equity market remained in the green throughout the session, as the BSE Sensex opened strong at 77,456.27, up 551 pts. During the day it spurted 1202 pts at 78,107.23, the day’s high, before closing at 77,984.38, advancing 1078.87 pts from its previous close.

The Nifty registered a day’s high at 23,708.75 and a low at 23,433.50 pts.

The stocks that increased were Bankex by 2.53 pc, followed by Power by 2.31 pc, Industrials by 2 pc and Financial services by 1.97 pc.

The mid cap rose by 1.32 and the small cap by 1.17 pc.

In 30 scrips, 23 advanced while 7 declined.

The gainers were NTPC by 4.61 pc to Rs 367.35, Kotak Bank by 4.51 pc to Rs 2178.35, SBI by 3.77 pc to Rs 781.40 and Tech Mahindra by 3.54 pc to Rs 1460.

The losers were Titan by 2.68 pc to Rs 3078.95, IndusInd Bank by 2.42 pc to Rs 669.15, Zomato by 2.13 pc to Rs 222.70 and M&M by 0.83 pc to Rs 2776.

A mixed trend was seen in the Asian market, as the Straits Times was up by 0.25 pc and the Hang Seng by 0.90 pc.

While the Taiwan Weighted fell by 0.46 and the Jakarta Composite by 1.57 pc.
