Show us where we took support of former militants: Omar to Ram Madhav

Srinagar, Sep 5 (UNI) Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday challenged senior BJP leader Ram Madhav to provide evidence that the National Conference has been taking support of surrendered militants.

Omar was responding to an accusation made by Ram Madhav, who claimed that former militants were openly campaigning for the NC and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

In response, he asked for video evidence to back the claim.

“I think it’s a bit rich of Ram Madhav Sahib to say that the National Conference is benefiting from ex-militants. Show us where?” the NC Vice President remarked.

He pointed out that the election campaign had just started and assumed that Madhav had access to all the intelligence reports.

“There is not a single event that isn’t monitored by the IB, CID, and other agencies. All the videos are available; please show us where we are taking support of surrendered militants,” Omar said while speaking to reporters in Budgam.

The former Chief Minister criticized the senior BJP leader, noting that, after what Delhi did on August 5, 2019, he was under the impression that ex-militants were rendered neutral and that they had no more say.

“Clearly Ram Madhav is suggesting that these people actually hold the power over what voters will decide who then would say that everything they have done after 5th August 2019 has been for nothing,” Omar said.

He stated that, through the Assembly, they would like to convey to the world that the people of Jammu and Kashmir do not support the decision made by the Narendra Modi government on August 5, 2019—when J&K’s special status was revoked and the state was downgraded to two union territories.

Omar also addressed the governance of the past five to six years, mentioning allegations of corruption, even made by senior IAS officers, which will be thoroughly investigated.

“Wherever there has been negligence, shortcomings, or betrayal of the people, there will be accountability,” he affirmed.
