- Commuters face major challenges
Bhopal, Once again a strong rain system is active in Madhya Pradesh. August started with drizzle in some districts and moderate to heavy showers in others. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy rain in 19 districts of Sagar, Bhopal, Jabalpur, Narmadapuram, Gwalior-Chambal division.
In capital Bhopal, heavy showers on Thursday resulted in water logging across many low-lying areas of Bhopal, causing significant inconvenience to commuters. The persistent rains inundated roads, making travel difficult and hazardous for residents.
Low-Lying Areas Severely Affected
Several low-lying localities, including Arera Colony, Ashoka Garden, and Nehru Nagar, experienced extensive water logging. The roads in many areas including MP Nagar, Karond were waterlogged. Water was also filled at Alpana Tiraha. This caused a traffic jam.
Water filled in houses and shops in Harshvardhan Nagar, Jahangirabad, Tulsi Nagar as well. Due to heavy rain on Safia College Road, the road was filled with water. Many shops were flooded. In many other low-lying areas, streets and homes were flooded. Residents reported that water entered their houses, damaging property and leading to a temporary disruption in daily activities.
Commuters Struggle
The water-logged roads created significant problems for commuters. Major thoroughfares, including Hoshangabad Road and Bittan Market Road, were submerged, leading to traffic snarls and delays. Many vehicles broke down due to the water, further exacerbating the traffic situation. Public transportation was also affected, with buses and auto-rickshaws struggling to navigate the flooded streets. Several commuters opted to stay indoors or seek alternate routes to avoid the worst-hit areas.
The Upper Lake, a crucial water source for the city, was also reported to be close to its full tank level. The continuous inflow of rainwater has pushed the city’s water bodies to their limits.
Heavy rain for next 4 days
The meteorologist said, in the next 4 days, there may be heavy rain at some places and light rain at other places in Madhya Pradesh. The monsoon trough is still a little above. Cyclonic circulation is also towards the Arabian Sea. Another cyclonic circulation is forming. Their strong activity can be seen anytime.
