Silawat inspects Kolar Dam

  • Instructions given for better maintenance of 55-year-old dam

Bhopal: Water Resources Minister Tulsiram Silawat inspected the Kolar Dam today. He closely inspected the dam from one end to the other and gave instructions to the officials of the Water Resources Department for better maintenance and repair. During the inspection, Silawat told the officials that the dam is about 55 years old, so along with regular inspection, wherever repair is required, get it repaired immediately.

Silawat conducted a thorough inspection of the place, pump, dam and canals supplied to Bhopal for drinking water in Kolar Dam and the condition of all the eight gates through which excess water is released from the dam during the rains. He took detailed information about the entire process of opening the gate for water drainage and monitoring during this period.

Tourists should be prevented from going to risky places

During the inspection, Silawat gave necessary instructions to the officials. He instructed to fill the pits of the dam, repair the damaged railing and the parapet wall built for safety. Silawat instructed to cover the empty space between the gate and the dam of Kolar Dam with iron mesh for safety. He said that the tourists/citizens coming to the dam for tourism and picnic should be prevented from going to risky places. Executive Engineer of Kolar Project Mrs. Harsha Jainwal and other officials were present during the inspection.

Tulsiram Silawat honored the employees working at the dam site, Mrs. Karoti Bai, Mrs. Babli Bai and Mr. Bhagwati Singh Mewada by presenting them a bouquet. He had corn and drank tea with these employees. Silawat said that our field employees are the backbone of the department. These employees take care of the dam all the time.

Due to heavy rains in the month of July in the state, rivers and dams are in spate. The water level of dams has increased in many places. Two gates each of Kolar and Kaliasot Dams near the capital Bhopal were opened on Tuesday, while the gates of Bhadbhada Dam can also open if there is heavy rain in the catchments area. Upper Lake is now only 1.05 feet empty from the level. On Wednesday, gates of Kolar Dam were opened.

Alert of heavy rain in 22 dists

So far 62 cm of rain has occurred in Bhopal, which is 67% of the season. At the same time, the quota of rain in July has also been completed. More than 38 cm of rainfall has occured in July, while the quota is 37 cm. This has happened for the sixth year out of 10, when the quota of July has been completed. By Tuesday, the water level in Upper Lake has reached 1665.75 feet, while the full tank level is 1666.80 feet. According to this, 1.05 feet more water is needed. Bhopal’s three water bodies, i.e., Upper Lake, Bhadbhada and Kaliasot Dam are connected to each other.
