Bhopal: The Christian community in Bhopal today observed Palm Sunday with traditional enthusiasm and deep devotion across various churches in the city.
A palpable festive spirit filled churches throughout Bhopal from 8:00 am onwards. Special prayer services were conducted on church premises, beginning with the blessing of palm branches, which were then distributed among the assembled devotees. Holding these blessed palms, congregations participated in processions, reverently singing the sacred hymn of ‘Hosanna’. The celebrations culminated with holy worship and readings from the Bible within the churches.
Archbishop joins devotees at St. Michael’s Church
The Archbishop of Bhopal, A.A.S. Durairaj, joined the devotees at St. Michael’s Church in Badjhiri to celebrate Palm Sunday. In his address, Archbishop Durairaj emphasized the significance of welcoming the Lord as a symbol of peace and hope, urging the community to actively promote peace and harmony in their lives. He highlighted that the life of Jesus Christ serves as a guiding light, demonstrating the path of love, compassion, and service, values he encouraged everyone to integrate into their daily lives.
P.R.O. Father Alfred D’Souza provided further details about the observances of Holy Week. He also announced that a “padyatra” (foot march) for peace and harmony will be organized by the Christian community on April 19th, commencing from Bharat Mata Chowk.
