Dr. Varun Malhotra of AIIMS Bhopal and his team have been awarded the International Best Researcher Award for their study on heart rate variability.

This research, done in collaboration with Tanusha Pathak, Dr. Danish Javed, Dr. Santosh Laxman Wakode, Dr. Avinash Thackeray, Dr. Sunil Chauhan and Dr. F. Sidral, is based on a comparative analysis of heart rate variability parameters between Surya Namaskar and stationary cycle exercise groups. This honor recognizes AIIMS Bhopal’s significant contribution in the field of physiology and mind-body medicine. This award was given at the International Science, Technology and Research Awards Congress 2024.

AIIMS Executive Director Prof. Ajay Singh said that this study was published in the prestigious International Journal of Yoga, which compared heart rate variability parameters between Surya Namaskar and stationary cycle exercise. The main findings showed that Surya Namaskar showed significant improvements in heart rate variability, increased rest and recovery activities in the body, and improved cardiovascular health, while stationary cycling provided general exercise benefits but temporarily increased stress and exertion-related activities in the body.
