New Delhi, Dec 27 (UNI) Osamu Suzuki, one of the global auto sector leaders and Senior Advisor of Suzuki Motor Corporation has died at the age of 94.
A Suzuki Motor Corporation statement on Friday said that Osamu Suzuki died of malignant lymphoma on 25 December 2024.
Born on 30 January 1930, Suzuki ran the auto giant Suzuki Motor for several decades and established the Suzuki brand in many countries including India.
Osamu Suzuki was appointed as Director and Managing Director of Suzuki Motor Co in 1967. In 2000, he was appointed as Director and Chairman.
Notably, the company’s name was changed to Suzuki Motor Corporation in 1990. In 2021, Suzuki was appointed as Senior Advisor of the company.
In India, his foresight and leadership were instrumental in the formation of Maruti Udyog Limited in 1981.
Suzuki played the pivotal role in realizing the dream of putting India on wheels by empowering millions of Indian families with affordable, reliable, efficient and good quality vehicles. Maruti 800, the first car launched by Maruti, became an instant hit in the Indian market.
The Government of India awarded Osamu Suzuki with Padma Bhushan in 2007 for his contributions to the Indian auto sector.
