Kolhapur, Nov 11 (UNI) Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana (SSS) national president and former MP Raju Shetty on Saturday threatened to launch a strong agitation on November 17 to prohibit entry of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in the city for a function in protest of not resolving their demands.
While addressing the party workers at site of ‘Thiyya Andolan’ (sit-in) in Jaysingpur town of the district, he asserted that they will not keep quiet if the government keeps neglecting their demands of first installment of Rs 3,500 per tonne for sugarcane for this year’s crushing season and second installment of Rs 400 per tonne for last year’s crushed sugarcane.
“Therefore, we have decided to ‘gherao’ (mob) Fadnavis on his arrival here at the airport on November 17,” he said.
Shetty also said that women workers will give ‘Kharda-Bhakari’ (food items) to sugar mill owners as a token gift for ‘Bhaubeej’ on November 17 to press for these demands.
Fadnavis is due to arrive here on November 17 to attend a convention at Sanjay Ghodavat Institute in Jaysingpur along with NCP chief Sharad Pawar.
