Kolkata, Feb 20 (UNI) The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested travel agency owner Prasanna Roy, suspected of being a middleman in a ‘teacher recruitment scam’ in West Bengal government-owned schools, after a 10-hour interrogation, official sources said on Tuesday.
The ED, probing the money trails in the alleged irregularities of the teacher’s appointment, arrested Roy on Monday night after grilling him at its city office for alleged non-cooperation with the probe agency in the ongoing investigation.
Roy was on bail following a Supreme Court order issued by the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) in August 2022.
Roy, a relative of jailed former West Bengal education minister and Trinamool Congress secretary general Partha Chatterjee, has been accused of being a principal middleman in the multi-crore West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) recruitment irregularities scam.
He used to present himself as the representative of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
The ED conducted search operations on seven properties and seized incriminating documents in January last, leading to his arrest for alleged non-cooperation in a probe monitored by the Calcutta High Court, sources added.
