Colombo, July 15 (UNI) Thailand will offer visa-free entry to travelers from 93 countries and territories, including Sri Lanka, starting July 15, officials said on Monday.
Sri Lankans can now travel to Thailand without a paper visa, with Thai citizens already visiting Sri Lanka visa-free, subject to a USD 10 processing fee, Daily Mirror reported.
According to the authorities, Thailand’s Ministry of Interior has extended visa-free stay from 30 to 60 days, requiring proof of funds, accommodation, and return or onward tickets.
Immigration officers at airports have the discretion to determine entry.
According to Ministry spokesperson Traisuree Taisaranakul, ”this change will benefit tourists and short-term business travellers. The number of countries eligible for visas on arrival will increase to 31.”
China, Malaysia, and India will be the largest sources of tourists in 2024, with around 350,000 Sri Lankans travelling to Thailand annually, he added.
Also, Thailand is set to introduce the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) on July 15, specifically targeting digital nomads, freelancers, and individuals pursuing culinary and martial arts skills, the report said.
The visa, valid for five years, allows 180-day stays and requires applicants to apply at the Thai Embassy in their country, the reports said.
Moreover, visiting students with a bachelor’s degree or higher in Thailand can stay for one year post-graduation programmes to seek employment, travel, or conduct research, the report added.
