Chandigarh, Nov 10 (UNI) With the Supreme Court pulling up Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit for withholding Bills passed by the Assembly, state Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday said the CM and the Governor must have good relations.
“I respect the Governor, there is nothing like “I won”, and relations should be good between the CM and the Governor for the welfare of the state,” said Mann.
Earlier in the day, the apex judiciary rapped the Punjab and Tamil Nadu governors following accusations of the state governments that they were holding back files cleared by the assemblies.
The Supreme Court bench, led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, called upon the governments not to hold back bills passed by the assemblies.
“Please don’t deflect the course of bills passed by a duly elected assembly. It’s a matter of very serious concern,” the Chief Justice said.
The bench made particular mention of the Punjab Governor, saying it was not happy with the happenings in the Northern state.
The Punjab government had petitioned the top court accusing Purohit of delaying bills passed by the state assembly.
