On the 77th death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Congress leaders across the state paid homage by garlanding his statues and portraits, remembering his invaluable contributions to India’s independence and unity.

At a memorial event held at the State Congress Headquarters, State Congress President Jitu Patwari led the tribute, reflecting on Gandhi’s philosophy of non-violence, which inspired movements across the world. “Seventy-seven years ago, a man who gave the world a way to fight battles without weapons was assassinated. His teachings continue to be studied in universities worldwide. Yet today, those who glorify Nathuram Godse, Gandhi’s assassin, hold power,” said Patwari, condemning the rise of hate-fueled ideologies.

He emphasized that hatred—whether in India or anywhere in the world—must be rejected. “Gandhi’s body was killed, but his ideas remain immortal. Congress carries the responsibility of upholding these ideals and protecting the Constitution,” he stated.

Patwari also expressed condolences for the tragic deaths at the Kumbh Mela and the JP Cement plant accident. He reaffirmed Congress’s commitment to reaching every village and household in 2025 to safeguard democracy and constitutional values.

The event concluded with a reading of the Preamble of the Constitution, reaffirming the party’s commitment to Gandhi’s vision for India.
