Tiruppur (Tamil Nadu), Oct 8 (UNI) In a tragic incident, three people, including a woman and a nine-month-old baby girl, were killed and ten others injured, when illegally manufactured powerful country crackers exploded in a house at Pandiyan Nagar locality in Tiruppur city on Tuesday.
Police said while the two of the deceased were identified as Kumar and the baby girl Aliya Sherin.
The identity of a woman killed in the explosion is yet to be ascertained, as her body was blown to pieces under the impact of the explosion.
The country crackers used for temple festivals were being manufactured illegally in a portion of a two-storeyed house when the blast occurred dueto friction.
The house was reduced to rubble in the explosion, besides damaging at least ten houses in the vicinity.
The crackers were made illegally in the house owned by Karthik, where he was living with his wife Sathyapriya.
His brother-in-law Saravana Kumar was making the country crackers in a unit at Nambiyur as his license expired in 2023. Since then, he has been using a portion of the house of Karthik to make the country crackers meant for sale to local temple festivals.
Tiruppur district collector T.Christuraj met the injured people, who were undergoing treatment at the government hospital and assured all assistance to their families.
Tiruppur City Police Commissioner Ms S.Lakshmi, who visited the spot, said an investigation is underway.
She also said stringent action would be taken against those who make crackers without obtaining government permission.
