New Delhi, Aug 15 (UNI) On the occasion of 78th Independence Day, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge hoisted the tricolour at the party headquarters here on Thursday.
He said Tiranga is the country’s self-respect and a symbol of tradition of truth, non-violence and brotherhood.
Kharge wished the countrymen on Independence Day and through a video message said, “We remember the sacrifice of lakhs of our great freedom fighters and pay our respects to them.”
He said ‘Democracy and Constitution are the biggest shields for our 140 crore Indians and we will protect it till our last breath”.
The Congress President called the Opposition as oxygen of democracy and said that unitedly they had stopped the unconstitutional attitude of the government and also raised the issues of the public.
“It is a matter of concern that constitutional and autonomous institutions have been turned into puppets by the government,” Kharge said.
He said that the dream of the freedom fighters was to maintain unity in diversity. But some forces were trying to destroy the brotherhood by forcibly imposing their views on the country.
“As the president of the Congress party, I want to assure the countrymen that we will continue to fight against unemployment, inflation, poverty, corruption and inequality. Be ready to make every sacrifice to protect the Constitution. This will be the true tribute to our ancestors,” Kharge added.
