Bhopal: In a significant step towards helping people quit tobacco or gutkha addiction, Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre (BMHRC) has started a Tobacco Cessation Clinic. Union Minister of State for Health, Pratap Rao Jadhav, virtually inaugurated the Tobacco-Free Campaign 2.0 from Delhi, during which tobacco cessation clinics were opened in various medical colleges and hospitals across the country, including BMHRC.
The Tobacco Cessation Clinic at BMHRC will provide assistance to individuals who wish to quit tobacco or gutkha. This clinic will operate every Wednesday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon under the Department of Psychiatry, as part of the National Tobacco Control Program.
Dr. Manisha Shrivastava, Director in-charge of BMHRC, stated, “Given the serious health issues associated with tobacco addiction, this initiative is extremely important. We are committed to providing proper support and assistance to those who are trying to quit tobacco.”
Patients at this clinic will be treated by Dr. Sanjukta Ghosh, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychiatry. Counseling will be provided to individuals who wish to quit tobacco, and medications will be administered based on their needs. A personalized treatment plan will be developed according to the addiction severity and condition of each patient.
BMHRC’s Tobacco Cessation Clinic is part of the Tobacco-Free Youth Campaign 2.0, aimed at raising awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco and providing support to those seeking to quit.
