Tripura is witnessing ‘state sponsored terrorism’ : alleges Congress

New Delhi, July 16 (UNI) Alleging a spurt in political attacks ahead of Panchayat elections, the Congress on Tuesday said that Tripura is witnessing a ‘state sponsored terrorism’ and accused the BJP-led State and Central governments of taking the country to such a brink from where it will be very difficult to return.

“I am seriously saying this that Tripura and Manipur are witnessing political violence and it is sponsored by the BJP government and Congress workers were being repeatedly attacked.

After Manipur, the same situation is being created in Tripura. Both Manipur and Tripura are under the grip of state sponsored terrorism. Violence has become a political culture in this country,” party spokesperson Ajoy Kumar alleged while addressing a Press Conference at the AICC headquarters here.

Calling the BJP as “Bharat Jalao Party” Ajoy Kumar said, “Whatever is happening in Tripura and Manipur is ‘state sponsored violence’. Such incidents have happened in the past but witnessing it in such a huge manner and that too by the government will definitely take the country to such a brink from where it will be difficult to return”.

He said, “The rural body polls are being contested by the common people of Tripura. They are confident that in democracy, they can contest fair elections honestly and without violence. But this is not possible here because the BJP has decided that they will kill anyone who files nomination against them”.

Meanwhile, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge appointed Tariq Anwar and Gaurav Gogoi as AICC observers to Tripura with regards to recent violence and alleged attack on Congress workers in the state.

Party general secretary KC Venugopal in a statement said, “Hon’ble Congress President has deputed Tariq Anwar, Gaurav Gogoi to Tripura with regard to the recent violence and attacks on Congress party workers and offices by the ruling party after declaration of Panchayat elections in the state”.

It may be mentioned that the State Election Commissioner had announced the poll schedule on July 10 to three-tier Panchayat elections in Tripura which will be held on August 8.
