Trump starts tariff talks with three countries: Reports

Washington, Apr 5 (UNI) US President Donald Trump held talks with representatives of Vietnam, India and Israel regarding the recently imposed tariffs on imported goods, CNN reported.

Trump is in touch with the countries’ representatives to negotiate individual trade deals that could soften the proposed tariffs before next week’s deadline, the report said, citing a source.

On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order imposing a 10% base tariff on all imports to the United States starting April 5, while higher, reciprocal tariffs on countries and territories with which the US has the largest trade deficits will take effect on April 9.

Some countries have already announced their intentions to retaliate against the tariff increases. China, for example, said it would impose a 34% tariff on all imports from the United States starting April 10.

The US stock market lost $6.6 trillion in two days, the biggest drop in history.
