UP govt to help sports academies in private sector: Yogi

Gorakhpur, Aug 21 (UNI) Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday said that committed to promote sports and sports persons the Uttar Pradesh government will help private sector sports academies for which it has changed its sports policy.

Addressing the closing ceremony of the two-day wrestling competition organised on the occasion of Nag Panchami at Gorakhnath temple, Yogi said that till now private sector sports academies were not getting government help to promote sports activities.

He said, “To help them the state government has made changes in its policy due to which many players have progressed by getting training from private academies.”

Citing the example of wrestling competition in Gorakhnath temple, the CM said that many wrestlers were performing well here after getting training from private Akhadas in the village. “With the support of the government to private academies, sports talents will get more opportunities to move forward,” he said.

He said that it is the result of the encouragement given to sports and sportspersons in villages under Khelo India campaign, MP Sports Competition and Fit India Movement launched after 2014 under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi our players are showcasing their talent on the international stage today. “Players have also got a platform in the country for the last nine years,” he said.

Yogi said in Indian wisdom, the body is considered as the instrument of religion. “Therefore it is necessary for the body to be healthy and sports are essential for a healthy body,” he said.

He said the government has taken several steps to increase interest in sports and sports activities in the state. “Under this, playgrounds and open gyms are being developed in every village. Stadiums are being built at the district level and mini stadiums at the block level,” he said.

The CM said, “At present there are 2 international stadiums, 77 stadiums, 68 multi-purpose sports halls, 39 swimming pools, 14 synthetic hockey grounds, 36 gyms, 3 synthetic running tracks, 19 dormitories, 16 basketball stadiums, 11 wrestling halls, 11 weightlifting halls have been constructed in UP.”

He said the state’s first and world class sports university is being constructed in Meerut in the name of Major Dhyanchand.
