Bijnor, Nov 16 (UNI) Seven persons, including six members of a family, were killed and two others were injured when an autorickshaw was hit by a car in the Dhampur area of Bijnor district here in Uttar Pradesh, police sources said on Saturday.
Police sources said that the incident took place near the Durga Vihar bypass on the Haridwar-Kashipur National Highway, where a speeding car rammed into an auto late Friday night around 2:15 am.
“The collision claimed the lives of six members of the same family, including the bride and groom, as well as the auto driver. Two passengers in the car sustained serious injuries and have been admitted to a nearby hospital,” they said.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ji took cognisance of the road accident in Bijnor district and has expressed condolences to the bereaved families of the deceased.
Police sources said that Khurshid Ahmed (65), a resident of Tibri village under Dhampur police station, had gone to Jharkhand five days earlier to arrange the wedding of his son Visal (25).
“He was accompanied by his brother-in-law Mumtaz, a resident of Khari village under Haldaur police station, his wife Ruby, and their daughter Bushra (12),” they said.
Police sources said that the family, along with others, returned from Jharkhand to Moradabad by train on Friday.
“As they were unable to find transportation late at night, they hired an auto-rickshaw to travel to Tibri village. As the auto reached the Durga Vihar bypass, it was hit by the car,” they said.
Police sources said that Khurshid Ahmed, his son Visal (25), Visal’s newlywed wife Khushi (22), Mumtaz (32), Ruby (28), and their daughter Bushra (12) died on the spot.
“The auto driver, Ajab Singh (45), succumbed to his injuries during treatment at the Community Health Center (CHC),” they said.
Police sources said that the car occupants, identified as Suhail and Aman, both residents of Mohalla Kotra under Sherkot police station, sustained serious injuries and were referred to the Medical College Hospital after initial treatment at CHC.
Upon receiving news of the incident, Superintendent of Police Abhishek Jha, along with SDM Dhampur and other officials, visited the hospital late at night to gather details about the injured and oversee relief efforts.
Meanwhile, the CM has directed the officials to immediately take the injured to the hospital and provide them proper treatment. Along with this, he also wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.
