UP: Six killed over land dispute in Deoria, 14 detained

Deoria, Oct 2 (UNI) Fourteen people were taken into custody after six persons, including five members of a family, were killed over land dispute in Rudrapur area of Deoria district in Uttar Pradesh on Monday, police sources said.

The sources here said that former Zila Panchayat member Prem Yadav (40), a resident of Fatehpur village, was having an old land dispute with Satya Prakash Dubey, a resident of the same village.

“On Monday morning Prem Yadav went to the house of Satya Prakash where the dispute escalated and the former was killed with sharp-edged weapons.

After Prem Yadav’s murder, his family members and supporters attacked Satya Prakash’s house,” they said.

Police sources said that Satya Prakash, his wife Kiran, daughters Saloni, Nandini, sons Gandhi Dubey and Anmol were seriously injured. “The injured were taken to the medical college where Satya Prakash, Kiran, Saloni, Nandini and Gandhi died. Anmol has been referred to Gorakhpur Medical College in a serious condition,” he said.

On the directives of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Principal Secretary (Home) Sanjay Prasad along with Special Director General of Police (Crime) Prashant Kumar visited the spot and inquired about the incident.

While talking to the media, Principal Secretary Sanjay Prasad said that so far 14 people have been taken into custody for questioning. “It is being said that prima facie the incident took place over an old rivalry. The reason behind the incident is being probed. A case will be lodged after a complaint is received,” he said.

Earlier, taking cognizance of the incident Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had directed the Commissioner and IG to take stern action in the matter. The CM while expressing grief over the incident has directed the administration officials to reach the hospital and ensure proper treatment of the injured.

He had directed the officials to provide all possible help to the affected family.
