UP: Three killed, 8 injured as truck overturns in Moradabad

Moradabad (UP), Mar 2 (UNI) Three labourers were killed and eight others injured when a canter truck overturned after being hit by a heavy vehicle in the Katghar area of Moradabad district here in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, police sources said here.

Police sources said that the incident took place when the canter, carrying 10 labourers, including Ashok Kumar, Shambhu, Lavkush, Ramesh, Chetram, Mohit, Shrimati Devi, and Shanti Devi, was coming to Lakhimpur Kheri district from Delhi.

“On the way, the canter broke down as it reached Kalyanpura on the national highway,” they said.

Police sources said that while the labourers were pushing the canter, it was hit by another vehicle.

“After being hit by the heavy vehicle, the canter overturned. Three labourers, including Ashok Kumar (30), Shambhu (45), and Lav Kush (29), died on the spot after being crushed under the canter,” they said.

Police sources said that eight people, including driver Ram Lakhan, Shanti Devi, Shrimati Devi, Ramesh, Chetram, Mohit, Vinod, and Sandeep, were injured in the incident.

“On receiving the information, the police admitted the injured to the district hospital. The deceased and the injured were returning to their homes in Lakhimpur Kheri after working as labourers in Delhi. The driver of the vehicle that hit the canter fled from the spot,” they said.
