Washington, Aug 4 (UNI) The US District Court for the District of Columbia announced that it had resumed hearing the case against former US President Donald Trump for election interference, with the next session scheduled for August 16.
The resumption of the hearing is related to the Supreme Court’s decision in July, which refused to recognize Trump’s absolute immunity from prosecution for his actions while being president. The president is immune only for actions committed by him in an official capacity, but some of what he is accused of may not fall under this definition.
Trump had previously asked all courts to dismiss the cases against him. According to the ruling, he will be able to appeal the decisions the court makes as soon as it determines what falls under immunity.
