Washington, (UNI) American activists are in US Congress again on Friday going from office to office to protest Washington’s support for Israeli military activities in Gaza, co-founder of a women-led peace group CODEPINK Medea Benjamin said via her X account.
“We are going from office to office telling Senators that they must call for a ceasefire in Gaza now!!,” Benjamin said in a statement.
In a separate post, Code Pink shared photos of the activists with banners at the offices of Senators Shageen and Cardin.
“NOW: We’re in @SenatorShaheen’s office for a ceasefire and end to US support for the occupation. Staffers say they’re receiving hundreds of calls, but we have yet to see her call for a ceasefire,” Code Pink said.
Another pro-Palestine group of protesters called DefendMasaferYatta USCPR is seen in the corridors of the Congress.
On October 7, Palestinian group Hamas launched a surprise large-scale rocket attack against Israel from the Gaza Strip and breached the border, killing and abducting people in neighboring Israeli communities. Israel launched retaliatory strikes and ordered a complete blockade of the Gaza Strip, home to more than 2 million people, cutting off supplies of water, food, and fuel. On October 27, Israel launched a large-scale ground incursion inside the Gaza Strip to eliminate Hamas fighters and rescue the hostages. The escalation of the conflict has resulted in the deaths of around 1,400 people in Israel and over 9,000 in the Gaza Strip.
