Ahmedabad, Dec 21 (UN) Anmolpreet Singh, who went unsold at the latest IPL auction, silenced his critics with a breathtaking 35-ball century in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, securing his place in cricket’s record books.
The Punjab top-order batsman’s explosive knock, which is now the third-fastest List A century of all time, came as a timely reminder of his immense potential.
Singh, who has had previous stints with Mumbai Indians (MI) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL, had struggled to make a lasting impact in the league, with his performances falling short of the lofty expectations.
Despite his talent, he failed to attract any bids in the most recent auction, leaving many questioning his future in the IPL. But on the back of his blistering performance in the domestic circuit, Singh proved that he still has plenty to offer.
Walking out to bat at No. 3 during Punjab’s clash with Arunachal Pradesh in Ahmedabad, Singh took full advantage of the early fall of captain Abhishek Sharma. He blasted 11 fours and eight sixes, finishing with an unbeaten 115 off 45 balls, as Punjab chased down Arunachal Pradesh’s modest total of 164 in just 12.5 overs.
Singh’s century, which came off just 35 balls, put him third on the all-time List A century list, only behind the legendary AB de Villiers and the up-and-coming Jake Fraser-McGurk.
While Singh’s IPL journey may have stalled, his record-breaking knock in the Vijay Hazare Trophy is proof that his cricketing prowess is undeniable. His remarkable innings will no doubt add a new chapter to his career, one that could see him return to the IPL with renewed confidence and determination.
