- Neelu Jain’s stall from Ahmedabad is different from all others
Bhopal: The seven-day National Swadeshi Mela, organized by the All India Swadeshi Sangh, kicked off on Monday at Bittan Market’s Dussehra Ground in Bhopal. The fair will be open to the public daily from 2 pm to 11 pm.
Among the diverse stalls, one standout is Neelu Jain from Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Despite being 80% physically challenged, Neelu has embraced self-reliance and positivity, setting up a stall showcasing handmade suits, kurtis, and dupattas. As an artisan, Neelu has been promoting her self-made products across various states for the past three years, participating in exhibitions and expanding her reach.
According to Sushil Kumar, President of the Paryavaran Sanskriti Sanrakshan evam Manav Kalyan Trust, the Swadeshi Mela is part of the Vocal for Local campaign, aimed at empowering local artisans like Neelu. Previously, Neelu’s products were sold online through platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Now, the Vocal for Local Swadeshi Mela offers her and other entrepreneurs the chance to set up stalls across the country at minimal costs, directly engaging with customers and understanding their preferences.
The fair also features stalls from MSMEs, cottage industries, handicrafts, handloom products, startups, and home décor, drawing great attention from the public.
