Kolkata, Nov 10 (UNI) Mohammedan SC head coach Andrey Chernyshov expressed his disappointment at failure to securing all three points against nine-man East Bengal FC in an Indian Super League (ISL) match at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Kriranganhe here.
Mohammedan SC and East Bengal FC played out a hard-fought draw, with the game ending in a scoreless stalemate. Despite Mohamadden SC having the advantage of playing against nine men for a significant part of the game, the team could not capitalise and secure a win on Saturday night
In the post-match press conference, Mohamadden SC’s head coach, Chernyshov, shared his thoughts about the match.
“We are not happy with the result because when you play against nine players, you need to win and you need to score. We did everything for that — we got into the box, delivered many crosses, and created scoring chances, but we weren’t good in the final actions and missed many opportunities. With one team having 11 players and the other only nine, people expect us to win. But it ended this way, and we are not happy with the result,” he said.
Despite creating chances Mohamadden SC could not score and when asked about what went wrong, Chernyshov said, “It was the last pass, the last shot — we need to be more confident going forward in attack and deliver better crosses. We made too many wrong passes, which isn’t normal. We’ve worked on that, and we want to change this situation. But sometimes players start playing without confidence; they worry about making mistakes, and then they begin to make those very mistakes.”
Even against a nine-man team, Mohamadden SC failed to capitalise, Chernyshov said, “You can play with 4-5 strikers, but the problem isn’t about the number of attacking players; it’s about the last ball or other actions.”
He reiterated that his team’s downfall wasn’t due to a lack of offensive players but rather ineffective execution of their attacks.
Speaking on the substitution of Alexis Chernyshov explained, “Alexis is still not so good, we spoke with him…and then we [made the] decision to bring Cesar because if one player is not ready for the 45 minutes, then it’s better to change him.”
As Mohammedan SC leave this match with a single point, making them 12th on the points table, they will look forward to regrouping their attack and winning the match after the international break against Bengaluru FC who are at the top of the table on the November 27.
