Sullia, Jan 27 (UNI) A wild elephant died due to severe blood loss and injuries sustained during a fight with another male elephant near Erkalpadi in Mandekolu village, located in the reserve forest area along the Karnataka-Kerala border.
The injured elephant is believed to have wandered to the site before succumbing to its wounds. The carcass was discovered by local residents, who promptly informed the forest department.
Sullia Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) Praveen Kumar Shetty, Range Forest Officer Manjunath N, and a team of officials inspected the location. Veterinary officer Dr Nithin Prabhu conducted a preliminary examination but deferred the post-mortem due to nightfall. The procedure is scheduled for Monday, January 27.
Forest officials are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal fight to ensure no external factors contributed to the incident.
