New Delhi, May 16 (UNI) The Congress on Thursday while accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of spreading lies about ration said that after getting the mandate on June 4, the INDIA Alliance government will double the amount of food grains given to poor across the country like Karnataka.
On social media post X, Congress General Secretary in-charge Communications Jairam Ramesh also alleged that when the National Food Security Act was passed in September 2013, the same was opposed in writing by the then Chief Minister of Gujarat.
“The National Food Security Act for 80 crore Indians (based on the 2011 census) was passed in September 2013. Only one Chief Minister opposed it in writing: the then Chief Minister of Gujarat,” Ramesh said.
He said, “During the Covid pandemic, he suddenly renamed the National Food Security Act, 2013 as Pradhan Mantri Garib kalian Anna Yojana and marketed it as a free ration act.”
Jairam further alleged that when the Congress government was formed in Karnataka in May 2023, “the outgoing Prime Minister took his revenge on Kannadigas by trying to sabotage the Congress’ Anna Bhagya – the guarantee of 10 kg free rice”.
He said that even Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has guaranteed in Lucknow that after the INDIA Alliance government is formed on June 4, the food grains given to poor under government scheme will be doubled like Karnataka.
